The decision was based on the results of the disciplinary punishment examination of the KPK civil servants (PNS), which was completed on April 2, 2024. The examination was carried out by direct superiors, monitoring elements, and personnel elements. The 66 employees were found to have violated Article 4 letter i, Article 5 letter a, and Article 5 letter k of Government Regulation (PP) Number 94 of 2021 concerning Civil Servant Discipline.

So far, out of 93 KPK employees who are suspected of being involved in extortion against KPK prisoners, 15 of them have been designated as suspects related to allegations of corruption in the form of extortion against KPK prisoners.

"Criminal action should not only be (against) the main perpetrators, but also against all those who were fired because they betrayed the people's mandate to eradicate corruption," said Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman , Thursday (25/4/2024).

According to Boyamin, the 66 dismissed KPK employees should also be prosecuted because they fulfill the element of complicity. He also hopes that similar actions will be taken against other employees who were involved in extortion of KPK detainees.

In carrying out their extortion practices, it is suspected that the suspects acted uncomfortably towards detainees who did not or were late in paying money. This includes locking the cells from the outside.

Head of KPK's News Coverage Department, Ali Fikri, revealed on Thursday that the decision to terminate 66 employees had been handed over to the respective employees on Wednesday (24/4/2024). "The decision will take effect in 15 days," he said.

"Can the other 27 people return to work at the KPK? How can they continue to carry out law enforcement duties after being involved in extortion?" he said.

According to Praswad, public trust will never be restored if the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is unable to uphold anti-corruption principles without tolerance. Therefore, he requests that all involved employees be dismissed. The KPK should also pursue this case through the criminal process until it reaches the court and is punished according to the weight of their wrongdoing.
