PDI-P Prioritizes Internal Cadres to Advance in the DKI Jakarta Regional Election

PDI-P opens up opportunities for internal and external figures to advance in the Jakarta Pilkada. Risma, Basuki, Ahok and Andika?

JAKARTA, KOMPAS — The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle is prioritizing its own internal cadres to advance in the DKI Jakarta Regional Head Election. However, the political party with the bull's head symbol also opens up the possibility of cooperation with other parties.

DPP Chairman PDI-P Djarot Saiful Hidayat said that there were a number of names proposed to be put forward in the 2024 Jakarta Pilkada. including Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, former Governor of DKI Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama, and former TNI Commander Andika Perkasa.

Prospective governors and deputy governors must also have wisdom and care for the poor, be able to execute city programs and policies, and work together with many parties to uphold Pancasila ideology. Electability is also the most important factor in promoting gubernatorial candidates.

Currently, the PDI-P is studying the existing names to be proposed as candidates for governor and deputy governor of DKI Jakarta. The PDI-P also takes survey results into consideration. On the other hand, there is a prerogative right of the PDI-P Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri to decide on the chosen names.

The issue of air pollution is not a new one. The condition of the community threatened by air pollution has been occurring for a long time. To support the Jakarta Regional Elections, PDI-P has already established communication with a number of parties. However, Djarot refused to mention the names of the parties in question. According to him, this cooperation is necessary to make Jakarta a better region. The party also declared their readiness to compete against any figure.

Until now, there are several names predicted to run for the Jakarta Governor Election (Pilkada). Chairman of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan, at the end of April, mentioned some potential names to run for the Pilkada, such as Eko Patrio, Lula Kamal, and Zita Anjani. Meanwhile, Chairman of the National Democratic Party (Nasdem) Surya Paloh has also signaled support for Anies to run in Jakarta.

Zulkifli said that PAN prioritizes its own cadres to advance in the 2024 simultaneous regional elections. "We prioritize our own cadres," he said.

"If there are no cadres, of course, we will open the widest opportunities for external parties to advance together in the local elections for regent, mayor, or governor in any region," he said.
